This property is located in the south of the Allier, the northern department of the beautiful Auvergne region. The Allier is an emerging tourist area and over the last couple of years there has been much publicity for this department and an improving motorway network means that the area is well-served with both north-south and east-west routes. The property itself is 7 km from the A71 motorway (Paris - Clermont-Ferrand). There are all manner of tourist facilities in the area. The Allier attracts visitors for almost every sport from skydiving to rock climbing and cycling as well as the gentler pastime of walking. Local Information The nearest village is Montmarault, which has everything for basic daily requirements: Carrefour, petrol station, bakery, garage, café and schools. There is a handful of smaller hamlets close by, but these have little in terms of facilities. The nearest large towns are Montluçon, Vichy and Moulins. These are the principal cities of the Allier department, with everything you would expect from large towns in terms of facilities and services, culture, history, shopping, markets, restaurants, bars, cafés and more. Montluçon is the obvious choice for major shopping trips, with Moulins and Vichy a little further away for more variety. The truly great and beautiful city of Clermont-Ferrand, steeped in history, and surrounded by a chain of volcanoes, is 83 km from the property (about 55 mins by car). Equestrian facilities such as feed merchants, vets and farriers are all within 7km. Schools Nursery school, primary schools (public and private), and high school in Montmarault (6.5 km). Other small primary schools within 3 to 4 km, and more high schools from 9 to 12 km. College for higher education, 24 km (15 miles), and several in Montluçon. Rural Life in the Allier The Allier is a land of gently undulating hills and valleys, thick with forests and streams, and threaded by several of France’s great rivers, the Loire, the Cher and the Allier itself. It is famous for the purity of its air and water. The people are friendly and always ready to chat about the weather, food and drink, fishing or hunting. Life is simple; neighbours help each other with anything from working the land to a spot of building, and exchange all sorts of rural produce. This is a land where nature still reigns, a paradise for cyclists, hikers, horse riders and others, such as bird watchers and anglers.
