It is very beautiful in this part of the Creuse as it is mainly trees, lakes, lovely views and countryside. Aubusson, an historic tapestry town, has everything you could need. Tourist facilities There are plenty of public lakes locally and the large lake “Lac de Vassiviere” is about 40 minutes drive. The ski resort of Le Mont Dore is approximately 40 mins, with Puy Sancy and la Bourboule close-by. Volcania is not far and Puy de Dome, is an extinct volcano which you can drive up to. Limoges airport is approximately two hours drive. Schools The local schools are in Crocq and a school bus passes the house every school day. These are for kindergarten children and primary school. The high school is in Aubusson. Equestrian There is an elevage de cheveaux et poneys on the way to Crocq run by a lovely French lady. The owners have been told that the fosse septique is up to standard and they are waiting for confirmation in writing. The land The land extends to 4.41Ha (11.13 Acres) and is garden, potager (kitchen garden), flower meadow and 1 hectare lake. A local farmer cuts the hay for the owners in July after the flowers have seeded, yealding about 30 bottes (the big round bales of hay) from the land. The land has fencing all around it, mainly barbed wire and the house garden is walled. The lake is 1 hectare in size and approximately 7 meters at its deepest. It is stream and spring fed and first in the line, so no pollution. The fish are mainly brown trout and carp, but are not massive carp as the owners do not feed them - they are all natural. The owners practice biodynamic gardening and so have a huge amount of insect and amphibian life. There are two ponds close to the lake. There are no rights of way across the land. The owners write:- You will see that we are attached to our neighbours, although you wouldn't know it by living here. This attached house is used by a French retired couple who live in Aubusson and visit for gardening in the summer. One brother visits in the winter for la Chasse, he is also retired - in fact there are only French in our hamlet of 5 houses. We are all very community minded and help each other and share plants, vegetables, flowers etc. The only other person living in the hamlet full-time works for the commune and is a single French man who helps with felling trees, cutting verges, etc. He is the one with the big ladder for cleaning gutters!! He will always help with any tractor work. We all help each other. We are not planning on moving far as we love it here and just want to downsize as we aren't getting younger! |
