This ivy-clad house of pleasing proportions stands facing south and looking immediately over a large courtyard surrounded by its own massive barns.

Enter the house and look to rear: there are views up the hillside and across one’s own 14 acres of grassland.

So the by-word is peace and tranquillity: so peaceful and so tranquil a spot that the property was acquired 20 years ago by a French yoga teacher who created a centre for yoga courses.

Then in 2001 the property was bought by an Anglo/Irish couple who very astutely allowed the yoga courses to continue (the owners provide the accommodation and the food, not the yoga teaching).

And the yoga groups from Paris continue to visit. They come for weekends and six day residential courses 5 or 6 times a year – they are accommodated in the ten bedrooms of the house and in the four gites. The original yoga room on the second floor created 20 years ago is still in use.

If you don’t speak French – don’t worry – it can all be done with the English language ability of the visitors with some sign language and some simple French phrases which you are bound to pick up!

During the rest of the year a gentle, no fuss, B + B business is pursued. Various nationalities have stayed over the years. A Judge visiting Caen for seasonal courts once stayed – to the great delight of the local gendarmes !

Yet no dramatic promotions are pursued - just recommendations from the local tourist board for B & B and for the letting of the gites plus repeat custom – this is the formula of these quiet owners.

Now a desire to “finish business”, to travel somewhat and to attend to family matters in different parts of the world causes this property to be available for sale.

Although it’s only the property that is for sale, it is quite clear that new owners may continue the same business formula and develop or change the activities according to taste – the addition of a swimming pool, the use of the barns for indoor activities or for stables – there are many alternatives.

Here is the legend which appeared on the promotional card of the French owners for fifteen years and continued by the present owners – and it still applies:-

“Un lieu paisible, simple et convivial, en campagne, proche de la mer, pour respirer et se ressourcer …”

which could be freely translated as -

“A peaceful place, simple and convivial, in the country, within reach of the sea, to breathe again and to renew one’s mind and spirit … “
