Undoubtedly one of the finest small chateaux in central France. The original stonework dates back to the pre-revolution France of 1763, as do many of the stone features, floors, fireplaces and the main planting in the garden. Like many fine houses, the Chateau was probably damaged by mobs during the revolution but has been magnificently restored, largely in the style of Napoleon III (c 1850 – 1880), when the servants’ quarters (now the ‘Petite Maison’ gite) were probably added, but including some early Art Deco features. The kitchen wing and the Gatehouse are later additions.

Set in 10 hectares of beautiful gardens, park and paddocks, the Chateau is located in one of the prettiest parts of the Charente and benefits from the Charente microclimate with as many hours of sunshine as the Cote d'Azure, but none of the problems. Winters are mild and short with little wind and summer temperatures are on average 3 to 4 °C warmer than the best in the UK and there is far less rain. Summers start early and it stays pleasantly warm late into the evenings, but is not as intensely hot as further south so the land remains green. The area is unspoilt and uncrowded with rolling pastures, wooded hillsides, hundreds of randonées (rambles) and abundant wildlife.

The nearest Village (under 2 kms), is Ansac-sur-Vienne with boulangerie, charcuterie, pharmacie, 2 restaurants, tabac/bar, coiffeur.

Nearest town is beautiful Confolens, straddling the river Vienne, with supermarkets, banks, pharmacies, market hall, garages, post office, hospital, cinema, hotels & restaurants.

There are numerous tourist facilities within a 20 km radius and local schools & colleges in and around Confolens.
