The nearest village is 4km with a small supermarket, bank, restaurant, butcher, baker, tabac and pharmacy. Tourist Information There is a holiday village with a lake for swimming and fishing with beach bar, restaurant and children’s games and swings. Angouleme is well worth a visit for its stunning cathedral and quaint, narrow streets, yet is also home to the world’s largest collection of film cartoons and comic strips. At Aubeterre sur Dronne, the huge cavern of the Eglise St-Jean, Europe’s largest subterranean church, presents quite a spectacle. The Poitou-Charentes region as a whole has a wealth of bird sanctuaries and animal reserves and is superb walking and riding country. Schools: 5mins by car to maternelle and primaire and 15mins to college. The nearest lycée is 20mins at Barbeziuex, which the owners are told has a very good reputation. Equestrian There are several equestrian clubs around. The best, in the view of the owners, is near to Angouleme, which has fantastic facilities and training. There are others further away and enough to be out competing every weekend if you wish. Chalais has an international horse show every summer. The farrier calls at the property and the vet in Chalais is very good and visits if needed. Riding is great; lots of off-road riding around farmland where the farmers do not complain! You can leave on tracks directly from the property and ride for hours with out the need to go on the road.
